About

Matthew McGivern is a British Actor, best known for playing Sam Chen-Williams in Channel 4's Soap Opera, Hollyoaks. He played the character between 2021 and 2023 and appeared in over 100 episodes.

Born and raised near Lytham, Lancashire, Matthew studied at the Actor Training Academy (ATA) between 2016 - 2018, before continuing his training at the Guildford School Of Acting on their BA (Acting) Programme, graduating in 2021. Additionally, he is a member of the National Youth Theatre, having completed their Senior Intake Course in August 2018.

In October 2024, Matthew made his professional theatre debut at the Lancashire Fringe Festival in Preston, performing in He Said, She Said, a new play by Lydia Baines.

Upcoming work includes Voidance, a high-action sci-fi thriller Directed by Marianna Dean and Produced by Mind Engagement Productions and Unfolding Entertainment, in which he will play the role of Judah.

Next to his work as an Actor, Matthew is a keen horse rider, having taken up weekly lessons since December 2023. He is also trained in Stage Combat, earning the following qualifications through The Academy of Performance Combat (APC): Basic Rapier & Dagger, Basic Single Sword, Basic Unarmed, Intermediate Group Fighting, Intermediate Knife, and Intermediate Staff.
